GUYANA | e-Agriculture offers solutions to regional challenges says FAO Rep

GEORGETOWN, Guyana. July 9, 2018 - Sub-Regional Coordinator of the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Dr. Lystra Fletcher-Paul today said Guyana, considered as the breadbasket of the Caribbean, can incorporate the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to advance its agriculture sector and ultimately ensure food and nutrition security in the region.

FAO Official Wants Clear Mandate for Organisation

Assistant Director General for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations Latin America and the Caribbean region, Dr. Julio Berdegué, says member states should provide a clear political mandate to guide the organisation’s activities over the next biennium.

EU assesses Russian food embargo

The European Commission has formed a group to assess the losses inflicted by Russian food embargo. The overall damage could be 12 billion euros. The EU has only 400 million euros earmarked for compensation.The experts of the Food and Agriculture Organizationof the United Nations (FAO) believe the European Union, the United States, Canada and Norway will have to urgently find new markets for products exported to Russia until now.
