ROSEAU, Dominica, Sept 7, CMC – Dominica has confirmed that seven pregnant women had contracted the mosquito-borne Zika virus in addition to two other cases of persons with the Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), in which a person’s own immune system damages the nerve cells, causing muscle weakness, and sometimes, paralysis.
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Aug 9, CMC – The Barbados health authorities Tuesday said they were investigating the cause of microcephaly in two babies delivered at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) this week.
With the Zika Virus explosion now overtaking Jamaica, public health specialists are concerned that not enough is being done to highlight the severity of the pandemic facing the country, and the potentially devastating effect of illnesses associated with the virus.
