Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley Wins 2018 Grammy For Best Reggae Album

KINGSTON, Jamaica, January 29, 2018 - Damian Marley has won the Award for the Best Reggae Album category of the 60th annual Grammy Awards.

He won for his  solo studio album Stony Hill which was released on the Republic Records label.

The results were posted on the Recording Academy twitter page and during the pre-telecast at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This is Damian Marley’s fourth Grammy and third best album award.  He won the Grammy Best Reggae Album awards in 2002 for “Half Way Tree” and in 2006 he won Best Reggae Album and Best Urban/Alternative Performance for “Welcome to Jamrock“.

Stony Hill was released in July 2017. It spent several weeks atop the Billboard Reggae album chart. It has to date sold more than 18,000 copies in the United States according to Nielsen Music.

Also nominated  in the category of the Best Reggae Album  for 2018 was: Chronixx  (Album – Chronology), Common Kings (Album – Lost In Paradise),  J Boog (Album – Wash House Ting), Morgan Heritage (Album –Avrakedabra).

The Reggae category  in the 60 year old Academy Awards was instituted in 1984.
