Belize - Opposition legislator suspended, Leader cries foul

BELMOPAN, Belize, Aug 27, CMC – Opposition legislators have accused the government of stifling efforts to debate issues relating to the country after one opposition legislator was suspended and police fired shots in the air to break up a protest outside the Parliament building on Friday.

BELIZE-PM says no gender policy as a result of Supreme Court ruling

BELMOPAN, Belize, Aug 19, CMC – The Belize government says there will be “no gender policy” as a result of a recent ruling by the  Supreme Court that overturned the country’s sodomy law ruling that Section 53 of the Criminal Code which criminalises consenting intercourse between adults of the same sex contravenes the right granted by the Constitution.

UNAIDS welcomes overturn of Belize sodomy laws

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Aug. 11, CMC – The United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), has welcomed Thursday’s ruling in Belize by Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin to overturn the country’s sodomy law.
