BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Juky 4, 2018 - The Barbados Government has praised Britain’s decision to offer free citizenship to members of the Windrush Generation who arrived in the United Kingdom (UK) before 1973 and to formally recognise June 22 as Windrush Day.
Members of the Windrush Generation in Jamaica have condemned the treatment they have received at the British High Commission's office in Kingstown saying that officials have refused to provide them with proper assistance for many years.
The UK government said Monday that emigrants to Britain decades ago who have been wrongly targeted over their immigration statuses will be eligible for free citizenship, as it tries to contain the continuing crisis.
LONDON, April 22, 2018 - As the British government continues to experience mounting pressure on both prime minister Theresa May and home secretary, Amber Rudd, over the Windrush affair, the UK Guardian says sources indicate that legislation could be rushed through parliament to give citizenship to those affected.
