BLACK RIVER, March 8, 2018 - Former Moravian minister, 64 year old Rupert Clarke, who pleaded guilty late last year to two counts of having sex with two under-age sisters, is to serve eight years in prison.
He was sentenced to eight years on each count.
However, the sentence is to be served concurrently, which means he will spend eight years in prison.
The court also ruled that Clarke will be formally registered as a sex offender.
The sentence was handed down in the St. Elizabeth Circuit Court sitting in Black River, shortly after 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
On November 29 last year, he pleaded guilty to two counts of having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16 years old.
His guilty plea was part of the sentence reduction initiative.
Clarke was taken into custody on December 28, 2016 after he was reportedly seen in a compromising position with a 15 year old girl in a car along the Austin main road in St. Elizabeth.
Clarke was immediately taken into police custody. He was granted bail in the sum of $800,000 on January 4, 2017.
Further police investigations revealed that Clarke also had a sexual relationship with the child's older sister while she was under 16, the age of consent. The older sister had a child for Clarke, investigations showed.
Justice Martin Gayle chided the former pastor for what he described as his participation in activities which he preached against as immoral.
The judge said that in passing sentence, he took into consideration character references offered by a number of individuals as well as a report from the community.
