JAMAICA | PM Holness Departs for IMF Confab, G20 Summit and Special CSME Meeting

KINGSTON, Jamaica, NOVEMBER 25, 2018 - Jamaica's  Prime Minister Andrew Holness departed the island this afternoon for official working visits to three major international Summits where he is scheduled to deliver key presentations.

First, Prime Minister Holness will travel to Washington D.C where he will participate in the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Conference on Building Resilience to Natural Disasters from November 26 to 28. Specifically, the Prime Minister will give a keynote address tomorrow (Monday, November 26) on the topic, Building Resilience to Disasters and Climate Change in the Caribbean.

Additionally, while in Washington D.C, the Prime Minister will engage in a series of bi-lateral discussions including meeting with Madame Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the IMF, other international multi-lateral agencies, and key officials. Prime Minister Holness will also host a Town Hall Meeting with the Jamaican Diaspora in the DC area.

On the second leg of his working visit, Prime Minister Holness will travel to Buenos Aires, Argentina for the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Holness was specially invited to present at the Summit. The Prime Minister will make an intervention on Climate Change and Energy Transition. He will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with other global leaders in attendance.

On Sunday, December 2, the Jamaican Prime Minister will arrive in Trinidad and Tobago for the third leg of his working visit, for the 18th Special Meeting of the Caribbean Community on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). Prime Minister Holness will preside over the meetings in his role as Chairman of CARICOM. He will also hold a special meeting with the  Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley,

Prime Minister Holness is accompanied by Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Nigel Clarke; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith and  Director of Communications and Public Affairs, in the Office of the Prime Minister, Robert Morgan.

During his absence, Dr. Horace Chang, Minister of National Security will oversee the Government.

Prime Minister Holness will return to the island on December 5.
