JAMAICA | JTA Concillation meeting with Gov't set for 10am Wednesday

KINGSTON, March 13, 2018 - The Emergency conciliation meeting called by the Ministry of Labour, in an effort to settle the dispute between the government and the island teachers, fell through this afternoon, as the JTA was unable to mobilize its negotiating team from across the country at short notice, in time for the meeting.

JAMAICA | Teachers more restive - Gov't prepare for a strike

KINGSTON, MARCH 11, 2018 -The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA), having rejected Government's 16 per cent over four years wage offer, and having declared that teachers will not accept the Minister of Finance's premature one year retroactive payment to be made this month, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information says it is being proactive, and has put in place contingency plans to ensure that provisions are made for the safety and security of students, should the teachers take inductrial action this week.

Improved Benefits for Public Sector Workers

Civil Servants are to receive several improved benefits under the new wage agreement for the 2015 to 2017 contract period. This is in addition to the fixed figure increase of $48,000 to annual salaries across the public service, which will see each worker getting $4,000 per month. The Supper/Meal allowance has moved from $550 per occasion to $700 per occasion, effective April 1, 2015.
