Abuja, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) Apologies in writing sent to the African presidents and heads of government prevented the adoption of a declaration of condemnation that they were going to issue in response to U.S. President Donald Trump''s insults, it was learned here today.
The resolution, which would be included in the Final Declaration of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, was drawn up at a preparatory meeting of foreign ministers, but the letter received by the heads of State and Government made them exclude it, said a source who asked to remain anonymous.

At a meeting with congressional leaders, the U.S. president referred to the African States and some Central American nations as 'shithole countries'.

The African leaders were ready to demand an apology when they meet Trump this month at a meeting to discuss emigration, but they abstained after receiving the letter in which 'he expressed respect for the continent', according to the source.

Anyway, the heads of State of the continent are downhearted and shocked by the Trump administration's growing and consisting trend to denigrate African descendants, thus promoting racism, xenophobia and intolerance, the source added.
