JAMAICA | PNP Parliamentarians support Opposition Leader

KINGSTON, Jamaica.Wednesday, January 2, 2019: The Parliamentary Group of the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) says it is in full support of the Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Peter Phillips and his position on a meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss the States of Emergency (SOEs), and is repudiating statements from Jamaica House that the Opposition Leader is delaying the meeting with the Prime Minister until the (SOEs) have expired.

KINGSTON, Jamaica, January 2, 2019 - Despite the fall-through of a meeting called with Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips for ten o'clock this morning to discuss security matters, which the Opposition Leader said he was unable to make due to scheduling conflicts, both leaders at the urging of civil society and the private sector, held private discussions this afternoon at Vale Royal.

KINGSTON, December 13, 2018 - The Parliamentary Opposition says it is aware of the political implications of its decision to vote against an extension to the States of Public Emergency, however, it is the right thing to do. Security measures that currently obtain under the state of emergency (SOE) can continue, but without infringing on the rights of citizens.
