Guyana government to refund CLICO investment to NIS

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Aug 8, CMC – The Guyana government Monday said it would repay the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) an estimated GUY$5.6 billion (One Guyana dollar=US$0.04 cents) it lost as a result of the collapse of the Trinidad-based Colonial Life Insurance Company (CLICO) in 2009.

Guyana Gov't says Amaila Falls Hydropower too expensive

The Government of Guyana says it will not be proceeding with the construction of the US$1 billion Amaila Falls Hydropower Station as doing so would would be “downright criminal.” In addition, IDB experts have also found that the cost of Amaila Hydropower would be too high.
