The satellite, developed by the University of Nairobi in coordination with the University of Rome, was launched last Monday, April 2, from an International Space Station in Florida, United States.
This was achieved thanks to the KiboCUBE Program, an initiative which offers educational and research institutions to the developing countries, the opportunity to deploy cube satellites (CubeSats) from the Japanese module Kibo of the International Space Station.
'Kenya is so proud of being involved and associated with the satellite development. We hope this to be just the beginning of a lot more collaborations and initiatives under KiboCUBE program', Juma added.
According to the source, the Kenyan Cube developed under the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA),and it was delivered last January 16.
The University of Nairobi called it '1st Kenyan University Nano Satellite Precursor Flight' (1KUNS-PF).
