CHINA | Popular Chinese Social Network Opens Autonomous Shop

Beijing, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) The instant message network WeChat has gained popularity in China after opening its first department store without employees, as clients only have to scan a QR code to identify themselves and acquire any products.
The shop, which opened in Shanghai, is available for clients holding a real bank account linked to the application of the Internet giant Tencent, which has more than 800 million users.

People only need to open WeChat in their cell phones or any other electronic device, scan their QR code to identify themselves, choose the items they want and pay the bill digitally.

A second confirmation takes place at the end of the purchase and if any error is detected, the client cannot leave the establishment, company Chairman Bai Zhenjie told reporters. The shop's doors close automatically after the client leaves the establishment.

In the future, only facial recognition will be needed to have access to that kind of commercial establishments, whose number continues to increase in the country, after Amazon introduced this self-service concept in 2016.

Official statistics show that there are 100,000 automated shops in China.
