LONDON | Omar McLeod takes Gold in 110m sprint hurdles

LONDON, Aug 7, CMC – Olympic champion Jamaica's Omar McLeod handed the Caribbean its first gold medal of the IAAF World Championship when he clinched the sprint hurdles here Monday.

The 23-year-old led from start to finish to take the title in 13.04 seconds from defending champion Sergey Shubenkov with Balazs Baji of Hungary taking a surprise bronze.

World record holder Aries Merritt's dream of winning at least a medal two years after a kidney transplant were dashed as he finished fifth.

The 23-year-old clocked 13.04 seconds in a close to perfection execution to finish ahead of defending champion Sergey Shubenkov of Russia who was timed at 13.14.

Balazs Baji of Hungary took bronze in 13.28.

Barbadian Shane Brathwaite was sixth in 13.32 while Jamaican Hansle Parchment was last in 13.32.
