IOC Reveals Method to Choose Russian Athletes for Pyeongchang-2018

Lausana, Switzerland, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced today the criteria used to elect Russian athletes who could enter to the Pyeongchang Olympic Winter Games, scheduled for February 9.

The governing body of the world athletic activity revealed that the commission of experts created for this purpose takes into account various factors such as the inconsistencies in DNA in biological passports and possible connections with cases of doping in the previous winter meeting in Sochi-2014.

In the same way, the results in the examinations prior to the Games are considered, as well as the reanalyses of the samples, positive in the past and values suspicious ​​of steroids, among other aspects, according to the entity.

The information of the IOC comes after the Russian Olympic Committee recently revealed that 111 of its athletes were rejected, in a list of 500 candidates.

Stars like the biathlete Anton Shipulin, the figure skater Ksenia Stolbova and the speed skater Viktor Ahn, all gold medalists in the games in the Russian city four years ago, will not be able to participate in the imminent contest of the South Korean city.

Former French sports minister Valérie Fourneyron, who heads the committee, said the data evaluated were complete, but by no means exhaustive.

'The role of the commission is to ensure that only athletes who were considered clean can be invited to participate, underlined the IOC in the statement.
