KINGSTON, Jamaica, October 17, 2014,– As Caribbean countries continue to put in place measures to deal with a possible outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the region, Jamaica has joined St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Kitts/ Nevis in placing a ban on nationals from Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea entering their countries.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, has instructed that Ebola surveillance at Jamaica’s ports of entry be heightened with immediate effect. This heightening involves an extension of the existing immigration form, to document information on countries which persons have visited or will intend to visit, and whether or not they experience symptoms similar to those characterizing Ebola, on arrival in the island.
