Friday was celebrated as Emancipation Day across Jamaica and fellow CARICOM nations, with the African diaspora joining in solidarity to commemorate this historic milestone of freedom. This is a good time to honour our ancestors who fought for our freedom. We wish to honour those from the 9 parishes who fought and were punished for daring to insist on freedom. Also highlighted are the names of those from St. James, the parish at the heart of the war, lest we forget. The names were taken from Colonial Office Records housed in good condition in the UK National Archives.
