KINGSTON, Jamaica, September 24, 2022 - A TROPICAL STORM WATCH for Jamaica remains in effect as the season's 9"' named storm Tropical Storm Ian, forms over the central Caribbean Sea south of Hispaniola. A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions pose a possible threat Lo Jamaica within the next 48 hours.
MONTEGO BAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2022 - Tropical Depression #9 has formed over the Central Caribbean Sea and is expected to continue its slow strengthening over the next couple of days while moving closer to Jamaica. A Severe Weather Alert, therefore, remains in effect for the island.
The Meteorological Service has issued a severe weather alert for Jamaica. In its bulletin at 5 o'clock Wednesday evening, the Met Service said a strong tropical wave is producing an area of disturbed weather east of the southern Windward Islands and is about to enter the southern Caribbean Sea.
Tropical Storm Fiona is now forecast to become a Category 1 hurricane by the middle of next week, after it lashed Guadeloupe, the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico with heavy rain and high winds this weekend.
