Plans in place for development of Caribbean television series

ROSEAU, Dominica, Mar. 17, - Audiences in the Caribbean will soon be treated to home grown television entertainment content, following a seminar involving media professionals in the OECS.

A three day traning exercise on Developing Strategies for producing content for regional and international media - held here with the professionals from the Organsation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), resulted in the audio-visual professionals agreeing to create a regional television series for audiences in the Caribbean and beyond.

The producers applauded the efforts of the OECS Competitive Business Unit (CBU) in facilitating a stronger and more effective network to create a range of new products about the people of the OECS.

The workshop participants were also introduced to a pilot for a television series being spearheaded by Dominican writer Dr. Alwin Bully.

The group endorsed the proposed concept by Bully and agreed that teams from the seminar would work on various areas such as script development, production and research, budgeting and marketing.

The participants also agreed to work towards a draft outline for the TV series over the next three months.

This will be followed by efforts at marketing the concept and creating a financing plan for a six-part series. The meeting was urged to maintain the flow communication to ensure that the desired goals are met.

Television partners in Dominica including Digicel-Play and Marpin TV pledged to work on efforts to distribute content by local producers.

A representative from Caribbean Tales Worldwide Distribution was also part of the event while regional producers, from Guadeloupe and Barbados will play leading roles in the creation of the new regional initiative.

The OECS CBU pledged to work closely with the region’s Audio-Visual Producers on the new series.
