JAMAICA | Revive Stay Alert Mobile Application to Help Protect our Women says PNP

KINGSTON, Jamaica March 27, 2021: The People’s National Party  is calling on National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang to revive and expand the Stay Alert Mobile Application that was developed and deployed during the last PNP administration.

In a media release today, Shadow Minister on National Security Senator  Peter Bunting says “this app placed personal security into the palms of every citizen with a smartphone. A key feature of this application was a panic button that automatically transmitted a distress signal to Police Control, including the GPS location.” This was at no cost to the users.

Bunting’s recommendation comes against the background of the gruesome murder of 20 year old Khanice Jackson, whose body was discovered on the Dyke Road in a state of decomposition after she went missing on Wednesday of this week.

“This tragic loss of life has become all too familiar to the Jamaican people, as over 350 Jamaicans have so far been murdered this year. The murder of Khanice Jackson has contributed to a heightened climate of insecurity, particularly for women,” Bunting lamented.

Senator Bunting said, “Many Jamaicans had been hoping and praying that Khanice would have returned home safely, but the unfortunate reality is that our women remain vulnerable to predators and need special  initiatives to help protect them.”

He pointed out that “this application is no longer operational - seemingly shelved by this Administration along with all the other initiatives of the Unite for Change project.”

Senator Bunting is calling for increased community vigilance, beefed-up police surveillance, and the incorporation of technology to help save lives.

The People’s National Party is extending its deepest condolences to the family of 20-year-old Khanice Jackson, joins the family and co-workers in mourning yet another brilliant Jamaican woman who has been lost to crime and violence.
