KINGSTON, JAMAICA, August 24, 2020: The People’s National Party (PNP) says it will be suspending all it's LARGE motorcades and drive-throughs immediately in an effort to minimize any instance of large gatherings, in light of the spread of the coronavirus within the population now affecting several communities across the island.

In a statement this morning, PNP General Secretary of the Party, Julian Robinson, said “these activities have proven to be difficult in the enforcement of social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols.

He said the Party’s campaign teams across the island would intensify the distribution of Voter’s Guides to electors and continue house-to-house engagement as part of it electioneering exercise in each constituency.

Additionally, the Party is calling on the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) to provide dedicated lines, seats, and tents, at the voting clusters,  for our senior citizens during the voting process and to ensure that there is no undue or unnecessary humbug to slow or deter our seniors from exercising their democratic right.

The Party said it is also urging the EOJ to ensure the sanitizing stations and or washbasins are within the precincts of the polling process to encourage adherence to the guidelines.

Mr. Robinson called on all PNP supporters and Jamaicans, in general, to support the election COVID-19 protocols and ensure that they are safe. “The present increase in cases is serious, and we want everybody to remain well and be here for the September 3 general election. That can only be achieved by compliance with the health and campaigning protocols as well following guidelines communicated to the public from time to time.”

The Party is also appealing to all Jamaicans, its supporters, and workers to obey the COVID-19 protocols as the increased positive cases now being experienced have the potential of overwhelming our hospitals.
