Political Plotters and Players, the Caribbean can't breathe !

AS I was expecting an easy win for the Coalition at the March 2, 2020 elections, I wrote in this column that the APNU+AFC was heading for the “Triple Crown.” I had least expected an opposition plot to rig the polls, glaring evidence of which has not only surfaced at the recount of the ballots cast, but could taint the credibility of the elections on the ground of fraud.

SURINAME | Suriname Holds Elections for New Assembly

SURINAME goes to the polls on Monday May 25 to elect a new government

PARAMARIBO,  Suriname May 22, 2020 - The people of Suriname will go to the polls on May 25, 2020 to elect a new 51-seat parliament, which will then vote for the country’s president. The incumbent ruling party, the National Democratic Party (Nationale Democratische Partij or NDP) and its president, Desiré Delano “Desi” Bouterse is said to face a daunting re-election landscape.

CARICOM | CARICOM Blasts EU for blacklisting member states

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, May 19, 2020 - The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) says it “deplores the latest attack by the European Commission on the economic well-being of some of our Member States who were named on 7th May 2020, in a list of third countries with strategic Anti-Money Laundering/ Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) deficiencies, and which would therefore be subject to enhanced due diligence measures by European Union (EU) States.”
