GUYANA | Venezuelan Navy seize Guyanese fishing vessels in Guyana Economic Zone

GEORGETOWN, January 24, 2021 - Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched an investigation into the circumstances under which two Guyanese registered fishing vessels – the Lady Nayera and the Sea Wolf – operating off the coast of Waini Point within Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone, were intercepted by the Venezuelan military.

CARICOM disappointed and concerned over Venezuela statement

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, January 12, 2021 - The Caribbean Community (CARICOM)  says it is deeply disappointed and concerned at the decree and subsequent statements by Venezuela with respect to that country’s border controversy with Guyana, including intimations of the creation of a strategic area of national development called “Territory for the Development of the Atlantic Façade.”

GUYANA | Venezuela/Guyana boundary dispute flares - UN, CARICOM advised

GEORGETOWN, January 11, 2021 - Stung by the recent ruling of the Intertnational Court of Justice in favor of Guyana regarding the tribunal’s jurisdiction in the territorial dispute, Venezuela’s national assembly has announced a renewed claim over the Essequibo region of Guyana, and the establishment of  a special committee for the defense of their decision.

Venezuela reiterates rejection of ICJ ruling on the Essequibo

Caracas, Dec 27 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza rejected Saturday the interpretation of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of the 1966 Geneva Agreement regarding the unilateral lawsuit of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana against Venezuela.

CARICOM | Sanders flays OAS for allowing Guaidó attack on Trinidad and Tobago

MONTEGO BAY, December 19, 2020 - Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda to the United States and the Organisation of American States, Sir Ronald Sanders has described as “sordid” and “a presumptuous assault,” an attack on the Government of Trinidad and Tobago by a representative of Juan Guaidó at a meeting of the Organization of American States last Wednesday over the drowning death of 16 Venezuelan refugees at sea.
