High Court blocks CARICOM-supervised recount of Guyana’s general election votes

GEORGETOWN, March 17, 2020 - While the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) examines the legal ramifications of the Aide Memoire between the Opposition Leader and President David Granger aimed at kick-starting the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)-supervised recount of votes cast in March 2 general elections, the High Court on Tuesday granted an injunction blocking that exercise.

GUYANA | Guyana High Court Will hear oral arguments in election matter today

GEORGETOWN, March 10, 2020 - Chief Justice, Roxane George-Wiltshire will hear arguments in the Guyana Region 4 election matter this afternoon, having ruled  on Sunday, that the High Court has oversight jurisdiction to hear related cases involving orders seeking verification of the votes cast in the March 2 General and Regional Elections in Region Four.

GUYANA | Chief Justice Roxane George-Wiltshire to Rule Sunday whether injunction should be quashed on Sunday

GEORGETOWN March 7, 2020 - Chief Justice, Roxane George-Wiltshire on Saturday, in an emergency High Court hearing, promised to rule on Sunday on a request by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to throw out a High Court injunction obtained by the PPP Opposition on Thursday, which bars GECOM from making a declaration in relation to Region Four results,before the figures have been verified.

GUYANA | Political Parties nominate for March 2 General and Regional Elections

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, January 10, 2020 - Guyana's political parties, including  its two largest political organisations — A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) and the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) — marched through the streets of Georgetown to Umana Yana today,where they handed in their nomination papers to the Guyana Elections Commission, in their bid to contest the March 2 General elections.
