Cuba and USA diplomatic meetings begin on January 21

The Assistant Secretary of State for Latin America of the US State Department, Roberta Jacobson, will travel to Havana to discuss the restoration of relations with Cuba.

It is expected that on 21 and 22 January begin diplomatic meetings between Cuba and the United States. The Assistant Secretary for Latin America of the US State Department, Roberta Jacobson, arrive in Havana on that date under the restoration of relations between the two countries, announced last December.

According to information from the State Department theme that will guide the meeting will be "the normalization of diplomatic relations." Furthermore, it is expected to clarify the status of embassies and visa issuance.

Cuba and the United States restored diplomatic relations on 17 December, after the presidents of those countries, Raúl Castro and Barack Obama respectively, sostuvieran conversations.

Relations between Cuba and the United States deteriorated after the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro in 1959. Cuba not bowed to the capitalist country that keeps you a trade blockade since then US interests.

The world has repeatedly rejected, also with the United Nations (UN) as a backdrop, the trade embargo has caused losses in basic services to the Caribbean country. However, Cuba has positioned itself as one of the countries with the highest educational levels and health services.
