SURINAME | Suriname Holds Elections for New Assembly

PARAMARIBO, May 24, 2020 - Suriname, a member of the Caribbean Community of Nations, CARICOM,  will on Monday hold parliamentary elections to elect a new 51-seat National Assembly, which will then vote to designate the country's president.

SURINAME goes to the polls on Monday May 25 to elect a new government

PARAMARIBO,  Suriname May 22, 2020 - The people of Suriname will go to the polls on May 25, 2020 to elect a new 51-seat parliament, which will then vote for the country’s president. The incumbent ruling party, the National Democratic Party (Nationale Democratische Partij or NDP) and its president, Desiré Delano “Desi” Bouterse is said to face a daunting re-election landscape.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, May 19, 2020 - The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) says it “deplores the latest attack by the European Commission on the economic well-being of some of our Member States who were named on 7th May 2020, in a list of third countries with strategic Anti-Money Laundering/ Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) deficiencies, and which would therefore be subject to enhanced due diligence measures by European Union (EU) States.”

JAMAICA | Jamaica won't do CAPE and CSEC in July says Samuda

KINGSTON, Jamaica May 13, 2020 - Minister with responsibility for Education, Youth and Information, Karl Samuda, says Jamaica will not be able to join the rest of the Caribbean in holding the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), in July.
