ST JOHN’S –– Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne is not losing any sleep over a threat by Sandals Resorts International (SRI) to sue him over what the company says were grossly defamatory statements.

Sandals may sue Antigua PM Gaston Browne over tax issue

MONTEGO BAY, JUNE 21, 2016 -A disagreement between the Antigua and Barbuda government and Sandals Resorts International could end up in the courts, if Jamaican billionaire Gordon Butch Stewart goes ahead with his threat to sue Prime Minister Gaston Browne for statements he says are defamatory and have the potential to hurt the hotel’s reputation and brand.

Sandals accused of short changing Antigua gov't on room tax

Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he is not satisfied with a 2009 arrangement between his government and Sandals hotel chain Chairman Gordon Butch Stewart, which sees Sandals’ retaining the lion's share of hotel room tax income, by what the Antiguan government has called “an unlawful agreement.”
