GUYANA | Opposition wants illegal parliamentarians removed before the House sits on Thursday
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, June 9, 2021 - Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon, has again written to the Speaker of the Guyana House of Assembly, Manzoor Nadir, calling on him to take action to remove Parliamentary Secretaries Sarah Browne and Vickash Ramkisoon as per an order of the High Court in May 2021.
The letter dated June 9, pointed out to the Speaker, that despite the order from the High Court, “There is no indication that you have carried out the instructions of the Court, and the Chief Justice is of grave concern not only to the APNU+AFC coalition, but to others in the wider society as well.
May I remind you that the ruling of Chief Justice Roxanne George was that these two persons were illegally appointed and are not eligible to serve as Members of Parliament in the National Assembly.
The Opposition Leader noted that failure to act in accordance with the ruling of the Court, would also be afoul of the Standing Orders of the National Assembly and the Constitution of Guyana.
"If in fact you have not obeyed the ruling of the court, I call on you to remedy the situation and to make public the action you have taken especially before the sitting of Parliament scheduled for June 10, 2021," Harmon said.
