BARBADOS | Mottley thanks PAHO for help to Region, calls for restructurg of Global finance system

BRIDGETOWN,  Barbados, Sept 29, 2020 - Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has once again enphasized that the global financial system must be restructured, revolutionised and democratised and has urged the Pan American health organisation (PAHO) to continue its efforts to assist small developing countries like those in the Caribbean.

Political Plotters and Players, the Caribbean can't breathe !

AS I was expecting an easy win for the Coalition at the March 2, 2020 elections, I wrote in this column that the APNU+AFC was heading for the “Triple Crown.” I had least expected an opposition plot to rig the polls, glaring evidence of which has not only surfaced at the recount of the ballots cast, but could taint the credibility of the elections on the ground of fraud.

CARIBBEAN | Tourism contraction to plunge Region in deep recession says IMF

WASHINGTON DC,  April 30, 2020 - The IMF is maintaining that as Caribbean countries take strong measures to contain, such as border closures and lockdowns, to “flatten the curve” and contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus within their countries, the “sudden stop” in tourism is sharply slowing economic activity in the Caribbean.

USAID gives Haiti US$16.5-M, Rest of the Caribbean gets US$1.7-M to fight COVID-19

PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti – While Guyana and other Caribbean countries have received a generous donation of US$1.7 million from the USAID to help these countries respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government of Haiti has received funds amounting to a whopping US$16.1 million from the Trump administration to help in its COVID-19 response.
