ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Oct. 9, CMC – Telecommunications giant, Digicel, has sought regional assistance to help restore service to the island. Service across the twin island nation was disrupted early Sunday due to an electrical fault at the company’s control centre. The CEO of Digicel here, Janice Sutherland, told the Antigua Observer that an engineer was placed on a private charter from Jamaica to assist in the rollout of service following the disruption. She added that the technician will have to travel to Haiti before arriving here and this could take a few hours. Digicel says the service disruption which occurred about 9am (local time) resulted from an electrical fault at the company’s switch or main services control center. Marketing Manager at Digicel Patrice Simon says since the disruption, technicians have been working feverishly to have the service fully restored. So far partial voice service has been restored but data and LTE continue to be affected.
