THE HAGUE, June 30, 2020 - Guyana’s Co-Agent and Head of the Legal Team in Guyana’s border case against Venezuela, Sir Shridath Ramphal told the International Court of Justice today that Guyana is maintaining that the ICJ  does have jurisdiction in the matter,  based on the plain text of the 1966 Geneva Agreement by which the parties consented to accept the decision of the UN Secretary-General on the means of settlement of their dispute over the validity of the 1899 Arbitral Award.

THE HAGUE,  Netherlands, June 30, 2020- The International Court of Justice (ICJ) today began hearing the case of the border dispute between Guyana and Venezuela on the Arbitral Award of October 3, 1899, to first determine whether the ICJ has jurisdiction to rule on the validity and permanence of that disputed boundary, and secondly to determine the validity of the boundaries.
