GUYANA | ICJ begins hearing of the Guyana-Venezuela 1899 Arbital Award

THE HAGUE,  Netherlands, June 30, 2020- The International Court of Justice (ICJ) today began hearing the case of the border dispute between Guyana and Venezuela on the Arbitral Award of October 3, 1899, to first determine whether the ICJ has jurisdiction to rule on the validity and permanence of that disputed boundary, and secondly to determine the validity of the boundaries.

GUYANA | Dr. Karen Cummings Replaces Greenidge as Foreign Affairs Minister

GEORGETOWN,  Guyana, May 2, 2019 - President David Granger has appointed Dr. Karen Cummings to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, following  the resignation of Carl Greenidge who has Guyanese and British citizenship. The Courts have ruled that it is  not constitutional for parliamentarians to have dual citizenship.

GUYANA | US now backs Guyana in border row with Venezuela

GEORGETOWN, November 17, 2018 - The official United States (US)  position on the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy has shifted in favour of Guyana. This is the word from the US Deputy Chief of Mission in Guyana, Terry Steers-Gonzalez, who noted that previously, the US would simply support a timely resolution of the controversy. Now it wants the 1899 arbitration award respected.
