WASHINGTON DC - November 12, 2024 - In a move that promises to forge deeper ties between Jamaica and the vibrant communities of Connecticut, Jamaica's Ambassador to the United States, Audrey Marks, has enthusiastically endorsed Avelo Airlines' new nonstop service from Bradley International Airport in Windsor, near Hartford, to Montego Bay.

Addressing the Windsor Town Council, the oldest English settlement in Connecticut, Ambassador Marks expressed Jamaica's delight in welcoming Avelo Airlines' expansion to the island. "This route is of great significance as Connecticut and the surrounding areas represent a major market for visitors to Jamaica," she stated.

The twice-weekly flights, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays, will not only enhance convenience for travelers but also provide a vital link for the sizeable Jamaican diaspora in the region. "This new service will boost tourism and strengthen the cultural ties between our nations," Marks said.

Recognizing the transformative potential of this connection, Ambassador Marks envisions a future where the citizens of Windsor and surrounding areas are "exposed to the vacation opportunities in Jamaica" and vice versa. "We can have many mutual areas that will interest Jamaicans to come to Windsor and interest Americans to come to Jamaica for tourism, business, and cultural exchanges, including teacher and education exchanges," she explained.

Marks commended Avelo Airlines for understanding the value of expanding their service to Jamaica, saying she looks forward to a successful partnership that will benefit both destinations. This newfound accessibility promises to strengthen both economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

This new route is part of Avelo's largest growth initiative, which also includes the introduction of nonstop service from Bradley International to Cancun, Mexico, beginning November 20, 2024.

The ambassador's enthusiasm reflects the broader significance of this development. "With the launch of this new flight to Montego Bay, we can build an awareness within all of Connecticut, and within areas like Windsor, that Jamaica is three (3) hours away, like going to Miami or many other parts of the United States," Marks said.
