JAMAICA | MP Vaz Slams PNP Bloggers Over SSL Building Transfer Claims

KINGSTON, February 20, 2025 - In a strongly-worded statement issued today, Jamaica Labour Party Member of Parliament Daryl Vaz has denounced what he calls "lies and misleading information" being circulated on social media regarding his alleged involvement in property transactions related to the former Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) building

The West Portland MP categorically denied any connection to the property's transfer, explaining that the building has been owned by Christopher Boorman, his son's father-in-law, since 2013. According to Vaz, Boorman purchased the property from SSL that year and subsequently leased it back to the troubled investment firm, which has since ceased operations at that location.

The controversy stems from a 2023 transfer of the property from Boorman to his children, including Vaz's daughter-in-law. In a twist that highlights the interconnected nature of Jamaica's business and political circles, Vaz pointed out that the transfer was handled by a prominent law firm where the current People's National Party (PNP) President serves as a senior partner.

"I heard about both the 2013 purchase and 2023 transfer for the first time today via social media when videos and tweets posted by PNP bloggers were brought to my attention," Vaz stated, emphasizing his complete separation from the transactions.

The MP has taken a firm stance against the allegations, threatening legal action against anyone who suggests impropriety on his part regarding what he maintains are legitimate business transactions. "As I have done in the past, I will pursue legal action against any individual, who due to a clear political agenda, uses any platform to seek to suggest impropriety on my part," he warned.
