JAMAICA | People’s National Party Extends Lead Ahead of JLP
KINGSTON, Jamaica. April 29, 2024: Recent polling data by Market Research Services Ltd. (MRSL) provides compelling evidence that the People's National Party (PNP) is the preferred choice for leading Jamaica into the future.
So says the People’s National Party in a statement this afternoon which indicated that the polls show that the PNP has a near 8 per cent lead over the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
This surge by the PNP was revealed in the latest Don Anderson poll, commissioned by the PNP.
When asked who they would vote for if an election were to be called, 36.8% of respondents indicated they would vote for the PNP, compared to 29% for the JLP.
This marks a significant increase for the PNP from the 29.5% who expressed the same intention in September 2023. The PNP holds a commanding 7.8% lead over the JLP among registered voters, reflecting a positive response to the PNP’s recent strategies and the impact of the party’s performance in the 2024 Local Government Elections.
A significant 44% of respondents chose PNP because of the party’s unwavering commitment to the poor.
This core principle has been a hallmark of the PNP’s long-standing mission to create a more equitable society; 39% are motivated by the party's proven track record in managing the country’s affairs effectively; 18% favour the PNP for its superior social programmes; with 17% of supporters drawn to the party’s rich tradition of leadership and commitment to the nation’s progress.
The PNP traditionally enjoys support from mature voters, and this trend continues strongly with 40% support in both the 35-44 and 45-54 age brackets, and 42% among those aged 65 and above.
Equally important is the shift in the 18-24 age group, where the PNP is now matching the JLP’s support, each securing half of the youth vote. This is a significant shift given historical trends where the JLP typically led in this demographic.
The poll also indicates that support for the PNP is strong among both male and female voters, surpassing that for the JLP.
General Secretary of the People's National Party, Dr. Dayton Campbell, said "The recent polling results are a clear reflection of the people's trust in the PNP's ability to lead and uplift our nation.
As we continue to gain ground, it is evident that our message of inclusivity, accountability, and progressive governance is resonating across Jamaica. We are deeply humbled by this growing support and remain committed to building on our promises to ensure a better future for every Jamaican."
The People’s National Party invites all Jamaicans to join in this movement towards a brighter future. With a vision that embraces innovation and inclusivity, the PNP is not just promising a better tomorrow but is actively working to make it a reality.
