SVG | St. Vincent Gov’t seeking to acquire prefab greenheart houses from Guyana

KINGSTOWN,  St. Vincent and the Grenadines, October 25, 2022 - The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines want to purchase prefabricated houses from Guyana in order to beef up its stock of houses that were destroyed by the volcanic eruption last year.

Discussions have been ongoing between Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali of Guyana on the acquisition of prefabricated dwellings are expected to bear fruit as Deputy Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel visits the South American nation.

The prefabricated green heart homes that the government wishes to acquire would aid in the reconstruction of dwellings devastated by volcanic eruptions last year.

Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel and a group of individuals traveled to Guyana  in order to learn more about the availability of the houses and to discuss rates.

The one, two, and three-bedroom houses that are available for sale also include a kitchen and a bathroom and are made from the world famous hardwood, Greenheart Timber. 

The greenheart tree (Chlorocardium Rodiei) is native to Guyana and Suriname in South America. The natural habitat of the tree is rainforest and it’s mainly commercially sourced from Guyana.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Government was also seeking to obtain 150 prefabricated houses from Venezuela. However Gonsalves explained that the company through which Venezuela was getting the houses is experiencing a capacity problem.
