Kingston, Jamaica. May 25, 2024: The Peoples National Party has extended congratulations to the African Union on behalf of the people of Jamaica, on the commemoration of yet another Africa Day celebration.

A statement from PNP Chairman and shadow minister of foreign affairs Mrs Angela Brown-Burke, extended “warm greetings and congratulations on the celebration of Africa Day on May 25.”

“This year's theme, "Education fit for the 21st century," resonates deeply with us, as we recognise the critical importance of equipping our people with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving world,” the statement said.

“As we celebrate Africa Day, we reflect on the strong bonds between Continental Africa and Jamaica, forged through our shared history and cultural heritage. We pay tribute to iconic figures like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Burning Spear, whose music and message of unity, freedom, and African pride inspired independence struggles across Africa. We also honour the visionary leadership of Marcus Garvey, who emphasised the importance of education in empowering our people and unlocking our potential.”

“In Jamaica, we recognise the urgent need to improve educational quality and accessibility, particularly in marginalised communities. We are committed to equipping the next generation with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete effectively on the global stage, where digital literacy, critical thinking, and adaptability are key,” Mrs Brown Burke said.

“As we strive to build a brighter future for our people and the Africa we want, we must prioritise education that prepares our youth for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. We must harness the power of technology, innovation, and creativity to drive progress and prosperity.”
