Havana, the capital, in addition to Varadero, Cayo Coco and Santa Clara in the center of the country, along with Holguín and Santiago de Cuba in the east, received flights this Monday, although all terminals are expected to be active, except Cayo Largo , said the deputy general director of Ecacsa, Liset Urgellés.

He explained that with a view to this moment, work has been carried out to achieve greater reliability in landing and take-off operations, in addition to improving comfort at airports and adapting the facilities to health protocols, so that there is a good flow of passengers despite of the increase in travelers.

According to the official, Havana must maintain around 170 weekly operations, which rise to 400 when adding those of the entire country, however, the figures may change, as the interest of companies to increase trips to the nation remains Caribbean.

Currently more than 23 airlines fly to the island and there is connectivity through regular lines of Air France, Iberia and Air Europa.

Urgellés meant that in addition to the traditional Copa, Air Canada, Turkish Airlines and Aeroflot, others were recently incorporated such as World ToFly; while flights from Russia are among those that grew the most during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Terminal 2 of the José Martí International Airport, in Havana, was one of those that resumed activities on this day and for it they expected between eight and 10 daily arrivals from the United States.

The deputy general director of Ecacsa added that the country authorized the frequencies of trips from the neighboring nation that existed before the health emergency, as well as the possibility of reaching other provinces, but this depends on Washington, which since the end of 2019 prohibited the operations to destinations other than the Cuban capital.
