JAMAICA | Guy Hails Frontline Health Workers On Reaching A Million Vaccinations

KINGSTON, November 8, 2021: The Opposition Spokesman on Health and Wellness, Member of Parliament  Dr. Morais Guy, has extending congratulations to Jamaica’s frontline health workers on surpassing the one million target in Covid-19 vaccine doses administered.

Dr Guy says all members of the health team are deserving of special recognition, as there were many challenges along the way, yet they stuck to the task and achieved it 23 days ahead of schedule.

In a statement today, the Opposition Spokesman said the best way of showing national gratitude is to provide the best conditions of service possible and honour all outstanding obligations on the commitments made to them at the start of the pandemic. He said despite financial constraints, the government should ensure that this is done within a reasonable timeframe.

Dr. Guy said the public could repay our health professionals by taking their covid vaccination, which is now proven as the best way to fight the virus and reduce the possibility of hospital stay and critical illness. He said taking the vaccine is not only a commitment to self, but also a major help towards restoring normality in the economy, education and other important areas of national life.

The Ministry of Health & Wellness reported that, as at 2:30 p.m., Sunday it had distributed 1,000,455 doses of  the COVID-19 vaccine.

Of that number, 553,341 were first doses, 391,782 second doses and 55,333 the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Jamaica is currently administering three vaccine brands to the population – AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson, all of  which have been approved the World Health Organization.
