Netherlands prosecutors seek eight-year prison sentence for Jah Cure
MONTEGO BAY, March 9, 2022 - 43 year old Reggae singer Siccaturie Alcock, who goes by the stage name ‘Jah Cure’ could be facing a lengthy stay behind bars, as prosecutors in the Netherlands are seeking an eight-year prison sentence for his alleged stabbing of a promoter in Amsterdam, in October 2021.
The 43-year-old, Jamaican artiste has been charged with attempted murder, attempted manslaughter, aggravated assault or attempted aggravated assault.
According to the Amsterdam press, The incident ensued when the singer and the promoter had agreed to a payment of approximately Ksh.600,000 which was not delivered.
Jah Cure reportedly entered a self-defense plea in January, stating that he was in possession of a knife on the day of the incident on October 1, 2021, because he was wearing expensive jewellery.
However, the claim was dismissed by the prosecutors, who stated that the entertainer deliberately sought a confrontation based on threatening evidence sent to the victim Nicardo Blake's phone.
The prosecution also argued that the actions of Jah Cure were premeditated and his hot temper could have caused distress to the general public, having attacked his accuser in broad daylight in Dam Square.
It is reported that during the hearing, Jah Cure told the judges to Google him, after they did not identify him as a celebrity.
He is to return to court on March 22.
According to the Amsterdam press, the prosecution recommended that Jah Cure, real name Siccature Alcock, be sentenced to 8 years in prison with “credit to time served.”
“The prosecutor has asked the court to convict the 43-year-old reggae singer for attempted murder, and that the suspect should be put away for eight years with credit for time served,” read the prosecution's report.
