JAMAICA | Bunting wants Police High Command to halt Smear Campaign against Police Federation Executives

Kingston, Jamaica. August 2, 2023: Shadow Minister of National Security, Senator Peter Bunting, has issued a strong call to the Police High Command to take immediate and decisive action in investigating and putting an end to the ongoing smear campaign targeting the Chairman and Executive Members of the Police Federation. 

Over the past 24 hours, two separate stories with false and defamatory allegations have been 'leaked' to news outlets perceived to be sympathetic to the JLP administration, aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the Federation's leadership. 

This dangerous campaign of misinformation poses a significant threat to the morale and cohesiveness of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and risks seriously undermining public trust and confidence in the leadership of the JCF.

The Commissioner must, therefore, promptly denounce this smear campaign and make it clear that the High Command has no involvement in and does not support it. The credibility and impartiality of the JCF leadership is at stake. 

Conversely, the leadership of the Police Federation should be free from unjust attacks that seek to deter them from defending the rights and interests of their members. 

Senator Bunting urges the Police High Command to swiftly launch a thorough investigation into the source and motivation behind this smear campaign and to take decisive action against those responsible. 

The public deserves to know that their law enforcement agencies are operating free of political interference and with the highest standards of professionalism.

The Shadow Minister of National Security stands in solidarity with the Chairman and Executive Members of the Police Federation during this troubling time and calls on all stakeholders to unite in preserving the integrity and impartiality of our nation's police force.
