JAMAICA | People’s National Party Commemorates the 65th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution

KINGSTON, Jamaica. January 1, 2024: The People’s National Party (PNP) has extended congratulations to the Cuban Communist Party and the resilient people of Cuba on the momentous occasion of the 65th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.

In a statement today, the PNP said “This historic milestone prompts a reflection on the transformative journey that commenced on January 1, 1959, when the Cuban people, led by Fidel Castro, successfully overthrew the corrupt Batista regime.”

“The triumph of justice, equality, and the unwavering spirit of national sovereignty that ensued became an enduring symbol of resistance against imperialism and a beacon of hope for nations aspiring to self-determination,” the party said.

“The People’s National Party takes pride in the longstanding historical ties between Jamaica and Cuba, particularly the establishment of diplomatic relations by Prime Minister Michael Manley in December 1972.

“We applaud successive Jamaican governments for consistently voting in support of UN Resolutions calling for an end to the US economic blockade against the people of Cuba. Furthermore, we express our continued support for Cuba's rejection of being categorised as a terrorist country.

“As we acknowledge this historic anniversary, the PNP renews its commitment to fostering collaboration and friendship between the Jamaican and Cuban peoples.

“We salute the Cuban people for their resilience, determination, and indomitable spirit that serves as an inspiration to nations worldwide. The bonds of friendship between our countries are cherished, and we anticipate their continued strengthening in the years to come.
“May the ideals of the Cuban Revolution guide us towards a future characterized by equality, justice, and solidarity,” the PNP concluded.
