JAMAICA | People's National Party Mourns the Loss of Former Cabinet Minister, R. Danny Williams
KINGSTON, Jamaica. September 17, 2023: The People’s National Party has expressed profound sadness and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late Honourable Dr. R. Danny Williams.
In a statement, the PNP said R. Danny Williams was a prominent Jamaican businessman, dedicated philanthropist, and former Cabinet Minister. whose passing is a great loss to Jamaica as his contributions have left an indelible mark on countless lives.
Dr. R. Danny Williams was a remarkable figure who excelled not only in the business arena but also in the realm of public service. He served as a Senator and Minister of State for Industry and Commerce from 1977 to 1979, making significant contributions to Jamaica’s economic development and fiscal policies during his tenure.
He was awarded the Order of Distinction(CD) in 1972 and the Order of Jamaica in 1993 for outstanding service to his community.
R. Danny Williams was a pioneering entrepreneur and visionary leader. He founded and led several successful enterprises, including the renowned Life of Jamaica Limited, now Sagicor Life Jamaica, which became one of Jamaica's leading insurance companies. His leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence set a high standard for the business community and inspired many to follow in his footsteps.
Beyond his achievements in business and politics, Dr. Williams was known for his deep commitment to philanthropy. He believed that success should be shared and dedicated himself to various charitable causes that touched the lives of countless Jamaicans.

In his tribute, former Prime Minister P. J. Patterson said “Jamaica is now the poorer for the death of the Hon R. Danny Williams.“He ranks within the highest echelons of committed Leaders who have contributed beyond measure to the growth and esteem of our island.
“He was a towering giant in the fields of business, education, institution building and deserving charitable causes.
“I have lost a precious friend and an invaluable political colleague. No words are sufficient to thank Shirley, his lifelong partner, for sharing him so generously with the entire country and taking such good care of him.
To her and the family,by blood and extension, we express our profound sympathy. All Jamaica is bereaved,” Mr. Patterson said.
