JAMAICA | PNP demands Everald Warmington be removed from the Cabinet

Kingston, Jamaica. February 28, 2024: The People's National Party (PNP) urgently demands that Prime Minister Andrew Holness immediately remove “offensive MP” Everald Warmington from the Cabinet.

Speaking, yesterday, to Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters at his constituency office in Old Harbour, Warmington made his intentions clear that he will not be facilitating the new People’s National Party (PNP) councillor, Dr Kurt Waul, the incoming councillor-elect for the Old Harbour South Division.

Member of Parliament Everald Warmington and newly elected PNP Councillor Dr. Kurt Waul. The PNP's Dr Waul, a medical doctor by profession, defeated Lloyd ‘Brass’ Grant to deny the JLP a clean sweep of all four divisional seats in Monday’s local government election.

Warmington, a tactless political firebrand who is known to speak out of turn, declared that all programmes scheduled for the southern division will continue to go through his defeated lieutenant, Grant.

Warmington's recent threat to withhold state funds from PNP councillors is a new low in his history of gutter politics and tribalism.

The PNP says it is alarmed by Warmington's undemocratic plan to manipulate government funding, bypassing the people's will. This unacceptable behaviour contradicts the principles of fair governance and insults taxpayers.

In a recent Facebook post, Warmington could be see and heard declaring that No PNP councillor would be getting any of his money to spend either as a minister of government or a member of parliament.

The PNP release said “this is a crucial test for the PM's commitment to accountability – failure to remove Warmington will be seen as a breach of trust.”

“While Warmington stays as an MP until the next election, we demand a full withdrawal of his threats,” the PNP release said.

He must commit to not interfering in the democratic process. The PNP calls for oversight to prevent any actions against the people's will.
