Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court approved the release of Lula’s assets

<>Brasilia, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) The second chamber of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) approved the release of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's assets, confiscated within the framework of the trials related to the currently desactivated Lava Jato legal operation.

By three votes to one, the ruling is the result of the annulment by Minister Edson Fachin (from STF) in March of all Lula’s sentences in the Lava Jato case.

Fachin ruled that the Federal Justice of the southern city of Curitiba did not have formal power to try the founder of the Workers’ Party and, therefore, he annuled the trials.

This ruling was confirmed by the full STF in April.

The ongoing trials in the state of Parana on the cases of the triplex apartment of Guaruja, the site in Atibaia, donations to the Lula Institute and its headquarters were referred to the Justice of the Federal District, and Lula’s legal team asked for the release of the frozen assets in these trials.

“This new STF ruling is due to the acknowledment of the invalidity of the trials against former President Lula because of former judge Sergio Moro’s incompetence and suspected partiality, the legal team of the former president said in a statement.
