ST.KITTS-NEVIS | Prime Minister Dr. Terrence Drew Sworn in, To name Cabinet shortly
BASSETERRE, ST KITTS, August 8, 2022 – New-elected St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister the Hon. Dr Terrance Drew is expected to shortly unveil his St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Cabinet, following his swearing as Prime Minister on Saturday as the fourth Prime minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis at a ceremony presided over by Governor General Sir Tapley Seaton at Government House.
The oaths were administered by Justice Trevor Ward QC in the presence of successful and unsuccessful SKNLP candidates, members of the diplomatic and consular corps, family members, the SKNLP executive and campaign officials.
“It is indeed a pleasure to be given the opportunity by the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to be your prime minister. I also recognise that it is an office that I do not own and I am only here at the behest of the people and I also know that I am here for a limited time.”“During the time I am here I vow to work closely with the members of my Cabinet that will be named shortly to work with those who are in public position in government and most of all to work with our citizens,” said Dr Drew, who also promised to extend a “hand to our Federation sister island, Nevis so whatever issues they face we can be resolved” and to bring the Federation closer together,” said Dr Drew.
The other elected members of Prime Minister Drew’s Cabinet will be sworn in at a later date. They are Dr Denzil Douglas, Konris Maynard, Marsha Henderson, Dr Geoffrey Hanley and Samal Duggins.
He said he looked forward over the next five years to serving the people of St. Kitts and Nevis “with distinction, with respect and on the principles of good government, transparency, integrity so that our nation can be counted among those that are of the best tradition.”
In the meantime, former Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. Timothy Harris congratulated the new Prime Minister. “I take this opportunity to congratulate the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party on their victory at the polls, in which they captured six (6) of the eight (8) seats on St. Kitts,” Dr. Harris, Leader of the People’s Labour Party (PLP) said in a statement.
“In particular, I congratulate Prime Minister-elect, Dr. Terrance Drew of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and extend best wishes to him on his new journey of leadership of our beloved Federation.
“I congratulate as well, all the other successful candidates in the General Elections and wish them the very best…Our Country must now move on in a manner that ensures that the will of the people is preserved,” Harris said.
