GUYANA | Amidst Gen Sec Resignation,There are Calls to Postpone PNCR Congress.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana June 24, 2024 - People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) General Secretary and Member of Parliament Dawn Hastings-Williams today submitted her resignation to the Party Leader and Central Executive Committee (CEC), prompting calls for a postponement of the Party's 22nd Delegates Congress scheduled to begin on Friday.

In an unexpected resignation Hastings-Williams declares concern for the management of Party, financial probity and  readiness for the Biennial Delegates Congress scheduled for this weekend.

Hastings-Williams also expressed her concern with overall transparency and accountability surrounding the Congress, and non-compliance with Party Rules.

In her letter to Party Leader Aubrey Norton, the General Secretary noted that she had been hindered from carrying out duties as General Secretary and forced to function in an abusive environment.

“I think that it is my duty as the General Secretary to be integrally involved in every aspect of the preparation for the Congress. However, that has not been happening in many instances,” Mrs Hastings Williams lamented.

The General Secretary pointed out that  out that ever since she assumed office, she has been trying to correct the membership problem occasioned by a crashed computer which was eventually repaired, only to have the computer removed from the secretariat without her permission.

As a consequence Mrs Hastings-Williams says “cannot personally vouch for the accuracy of the records in this section.”

It is against the background of the allegations in the General Secretary's resignation letter, that many members of the PNCR are demanding a postponement of the 22nd Delegates conference until a full investigation can be carried out into the improprieties and a proper congress be organized with proper membership lists and delegate voters list.

The Forde campaign team is lamenting that with three days to go until the congress, the campaign is yet to see a copy of the voters list.

At this rate, there is no question that there cannot be free and fair elections for leadership of the PNCR party the Forde campaign declared.
