Jamaica | Security Forces launch major islandwide assault on crime

BLUEFIELDS, Westmoreland, February 13, 2022- Following the launch of a joint JDF/JCF anti-gang task force aimed at disrupting criminal activities across the island, the Westmoreland police have confirmed the death of  the wanted man in the parish who was killed during an alleged firefight with members of the security forces around midday Saturday.

Arising from Saturday's gunfight, the police seized an AK-47 rifle, two magazines and thirteen 7.62 rounds of ammunition during the operation.

The dead man has been identified as 31-year-old Andre Hinds, of the  community called  'Russia' in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

The police are now seeking two of Hinds' gang members  who reportedly escaped during Saturday's confrontation.

Reports are that about noon, members of the Westmoreland Proactive Investigation Unit were carrying out covert surveillance in a section of Bluefields when they got involved in a gunfight with three men. 

Hines  who was wanted in connection with multiple murders, shootings, arson and extortion, was shot dead, and the police later identified the two others, both of Westmoreland addresses, as 27-year-old unemployed Devani Bennett, also called Santa, of Auld Ayr, Bluefields, and 23-year-old unemployed Moses Ramsey, of the Russia community.

And in another incident the Police increased operations to disrupt gangs, seize illegal guns and arrest gunmen, one Smith and Wesson .40 pistol was seized and seventeen people arrested, including six women, in Bounty Hall, Trelawny on Friday, February 11.

The Taskforce has so far seized approximately seven firearms, over 1200 lbs of marijuana and the arrest of a number of persons for various offences including gang activities.

This includes the seizure of a .40 Sig Sauer pistol with a magazine containing seven.40 rounds by the Kingston Eastern Police who fatally shot a man during an armed confrontationon Thursday morning in the Kingston East area.
