JAMAICA | No Integrity Commission or Auditor General Reports to be tabled says Chang
KINGSTON, Jamaica. March 22, 2024: General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party, Dr. Horace Chang, says contrary to statements by Opposition Leader Mark Golding, there are no outstanding reports from either the Integrity Commission or the Auditor General awaiting tabling in Parliament.
In a statement today, Dr. Chang said “recent allegations have suggested a deliberate delay by the Speaker of the House, the Honorable Juliet Holness, in tabling reports from the Integrity Commission and the Auditor General.
Dr. Chang said as of today, there are no such reports awaiting tabling in Parliament. He said This clarification is significant, as it directly contradicts the accusations levied against the Speaker of the House.
“These allegations have been proven to be baseless and misrepresent the procedural integrity of our parliamentary system. It is crucial for the public to understand that these unfounded claims have sought, without merit, to question the impartiality and integrity of our democratic process,” Dr Chang said.
The JLP General Secretary emphasized that his Party “upholds transparency and accountability as the bedrock principles of governance, and…strongly advocates for accurate and truthful discourse, particularly in matters of national importance.”
“Misleading narratives and misinformation can undermine public trust and detract from the essential work of governance,” he advised.
He has urged “all members of the public, including media outlets and political figures, to exercise due diligence in verifying information before disseminating it. Constructive and factual public discourse is paramount for the progress and welfare of Jamaica.”
Dr. Chang concluded by saying that “The Jamaica Labour Party continues to prioritize the needs and interests of the Jamaican people and remains dedicated to fostering a transparent, accountable, and democratic governance environment.”
